How workflows work

What a workflow is, how it processes every upload, and how to choose the one your project uses.

Every recording you upload goes through your project's workflow. The workflow is the recipe: it checks the files, converts them to LeRobot v3, blurs faces, measures quality and finds episodes. Because the recipe is visible and editable, you always know what happened to your data, and you can change it when your data needs something different.

A workflow is a graph of algorithm steps

Open a workflow and you see it as a graph. Data enters at Input on the left, flows through algorithm steps and is saved at Output on the right. Each step is one algorithm, and its colour tells you its category: standardize, check, transform, enrich and so on.

Every step has typed inputs and outputs, such as Raw files, Recording, Checks or Episodes, and a wire only joins ports of the same type. That's why the editor can tell you a workflow is wrong before anything runs, instead of failing halfway through a night of processing.

Click a step to open it on the right. Settings holds its parameters, Connections shows where its inputs come from, and Conditions decides when the step runs. If you prefer text, switch from Visual to YAML at the top: it's the same workflow, and the two views stay in sync.

Official templates

The Workflows page lists the templates you can start from. Official templates come with the platform:

TemplateWhat it does
Robot standardChecks, standardizes and anonymizes teleoperation recordings, then measures quality. Each robot recording becomes one episode.
Human egocentric standardChecks, standardizes and anonymizes first-person recordings, then adds hand pose, head pose, depth and episodes. Marked beta.
Curate standardBuilds a new dataset version from an existing one, for example by filtering episodes.
Export LeRobot v3Packs a dataset version into a LeRobot v3 archive you can download.

Official templates are read-only. When you open one, a banner says so and offers Duplicate to edit. The copy becomes a team template that belongs to one project, and you can change anything in it. Build your own workflow walks through it.

Drafts, revisions and publishing

The editor saves as you work. The chip next to the title shows where you are: Draft r1 while you edit, Published r1 once you publish. Publishing freezes that revision, and your next edit starts a new draft. A project that runs r1 keeps running r1 until you move it on.

Which workflow your project uses

Open a project and choose Workflow in the sidebar. The page shows the steps that run after each upload, the workflow and revision in use, and its triggers: when recordings are uploaded, when you run it on a selection, or only when you start it by hand. Recent runs are listed at the bottom.

Use Change workflow to switch to another published workflow, and Edit workflow to open the current one in the editor. When a newer revision is published, the page offers Update to that revision. Under Curate and export you can also set the workflows that create and export dataset versions.

Project Owners and Editors can edit, publish and change workflows. Everyone in the project can see them and their runs.
